January 2, 2004

Meet Abby Kelley Foster, Worcester's own radical abolitionist and women's rights activist, in the first and only public performance of the one woman play, "Yours for Humanity-Abby."

"Yours for Humanity - Abby," is a play based on the letters and speeches of Abby Kelley Foster. The play takes place in the mid-1800s, and follows Abby as she travels the country, lecturing against slavery. "Yours for Humanity - Abby" features the respected local actress Lynne McKenney Lydick, as Abby Kelley Foster.

The first and only public preview performance of this new, inspiring and motivational thirty-minute play is presented free of charge on Saturday, January 17, 2004, 2:00 pm at the Worcester Public Library, in the Saxe Room.

The Worcester Women's History Project developed "Yours for Humanity - Abby," as a play for use in classrooms and public presentations. The piece is designed to educate the public on the significance of the life and work of Abby Kelley Foster. The play and a corresponding curriculum are available for classroom and public venue performances.

Fleet Boston Financial Foundation provided major funding for "Yours for Humanity - Abby". The program is supported in part with a grant from the Worcester Cultural Commission, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
