This program is canceled and will be rescheduled in 2019. Worcester Women Activists, a presentation by Selina Gallo-Cruz, Ph.D. and Milagros Montenegro for Worcester Womens Oral History Project.

Worcester, MA, home of the first National Womans Rights Convention in 1850, was known as a center of radical abolitionist activity and social reform in the womens rights movement. Today it is still the home of many activists who fight for social justice. Dr. Selina Gallo-Cruz and her students have conducted and transcribed over 20 oral histories of local women for the Worcester Womens Oral History Project. She and Milagros Montenegro will share what was learned in this collaborative project, including insights into the lives of these Worcester women activists and their contributions to nonviolent social change and community building.

Selina Gallo-Cruz, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the College of the Holy Cross. Selina teaches courses on Gender, Global Inequality, Social Theory, Social Movements, and Women and Nonviolence. She is a scholar of women and peace movements and a member of the Steering Committee of the Worcester Women's History Project.

Milagros Montenegro is a Principal Clerk at the Worcester City Clerks Office. A recent College of the Holy Cross graduate, Milagros won the Sociology and Anthropology Departments prestigious Imse Award for excellence in the connection of scholarship to public service in the Worcester community. She has volunteered for several events coordinated by the Worcester Women's History Project and collected and transcribed many of the interviews on Worcester women activists.
