Letters - James P. McGovern

 Dear Friends:

I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the Worcester Women's History Project (WWHP) for their tremendous work in raising awareness of the role of Worcester in the struggle for women's equality.

Since your founding in 1994, WWHP have been an invaluable resource for our community. Through innovative education and outreach programs, WWHP has helped preserve our past and brighten our future.

In 1850, a dedicated group of activists came together in Worcester to commit to "equality for all, without distinction of sex or color." That is a tradition of which we can all be proud.

In addition to celebrating our heritage, the WWHP is taking the lead in preparing future generations for a society free from discrimination. A major 3-day conference, Women 2000, is planned for the millennium. This gathering will explore Worcester's unique historic role as well as address contemporary, cutting edge issues that face women today. It will be a terrific opportunity to discuss how far we have come and how far we still need to go.

Again, I want to commend the Worcester Women's History Project for their contributions to our community. I look forward to working closely with them as we prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Sincerely,
James P. McGovern
Member of Congress
